Hello!

I created this website in 2000, starting by complaining that even though it is the future, electric cars are not ubiquitous.

In fact, you still can't buy one new today, in the UK. And it's 2010!   So the future hasn't quite turned out to be a fusion powered utopia, passenger electric vehicles never really took off, but electric cars have been around and in use for well over the last 100 years.

Update: You can buy one now.  A short wait eh?  The Nissan Leaf is available!

Shortly we'll once again have factory built vehicles from Mitubishi, Think and others.  But for now, the best electric cars currently available are the old ones from PSA group (Peugeot/Citroen) - these were originally leased, and typically to corporate or government customers only.  I have owned a Berlingo Electrique since 2005 and am very happy with it.

I offer some services for fellow PSA EV owners, please see the menu on the left.

Another alternative is to make one yourself, which isn't as difficult as it sounds, or you can get someone else to do it. There are a couple of companies in the UK who can sell you the parts, or a ready converted small car like a Metro or Fiesta. The DIY route is more interesting if you're technically minded, and gives you the option of making something which is exactly suited to your travel needs, or your wallet..

Here's a page which has some more detail about building your own. Most DIY EV people run out of garage space pretty quickly, so you may find a ready made "used" conversion at a reasonable price, the Electric Car Association Battery Vehicle Society Electric Vehicle Association Scotland is the obvious place to look!
